And so on...
Why can I never seem to stay out of trouble?
Why do I always land in a big heap of rubble?
My soul has a death-wish
Just like a fish
In a bubble.
Every time I meet the thing that you became
And you say `Patience is a particular virtue of mine.',
I realise that I deserve the greater share of blame
`Cos I left you empty when I left you behind:
I was only being cruel to be kind.
In this verse, the guitar plays as normal, the soprano and bass ooh and
aah, and the tenor's words are spoken (like Robyn Hitchcock does it)...
Tnr: So now my Police Box stays a sad and lonely shade of blue as I
blunder from planet to planet like a curiously troublesome yeast
infection turning gleaming totalitarian dictatorships into mouldy
festering anarchic compost and then sneaking off before somebody
gives me a job because I never could stay still and be depended on,
like you know.
And then the soprano and tenor really sock it for the bridge...
And every time you see a woman at my side
You say `My dear Miss So-and-so, how charming!',
But the knife of my betrayal lacerates your flaky pride
And your taste in revenge is far too alarming:
I look more dismayed than disarming.
So why must my Police Box always be blue?
Yours always looks like what you want it to.
One day I'll make amends
And we'll be friends
Like we used to do.
Coda...
Tnr: Yes it's blue, though I've fiddled
Gtr: G Em
Tnr: With all my spare parts.
Gtr: C D
Tnr: My Tardis is hard as
Gtr: G Em
Tnr: The shards of your hearts.
Gtr: C D
Tnr: Time heals all wounds they say: (pause)
Gtr: G Em C
Tnr: Won't you let me get away?
Gtr: D G C G C G
